As the army battles Taliban militants in the northwest, civilians are getting caught in the crossfire.

Ayaz Khan, 5, was struck in the leg and his 15-year-old sister, Zainab was killed when the van their family was riding in came under fire as they fled fighting in their town Pir Baba in Buner. Ayaz’s brother was also wounded. Their father Mir Kamal says two military helicopters fired at them, but a Pakistani military spokesman denied the incident, saying the fire must have come from elsewhere.
