Wine dinner and Alegria Reserve release party

Highlights: Five-course gourmet meal, each course paired with a Birdstone Winery wine; live and box auction. Event benefits the Alegria Guild of Children’s Hospital Central California.

SQUAW VALLEY / VENTURA
Ultimate Boarder
When, where: April 13 to 19 at Squaw Valley, 1960 Squaw Valley Road, Olympic Village; C Street in Ventura; Ventura County Fairgrounds, 10 Harbor Blvd.
Highlights: Contest’s first outing, billed as only one of its kind in the U.S. Triple-sport competition includes snowboarding at Squaw Valley, surfing in Ventura and skateboarding at the fairgrounds; pits pros alongside amateurs; top prize $30,000.

San Francisco International Film Festival

Highlights: Screenings, parties, opening-night film “The Last Mistress,” closing-night film “Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson,” centerpiece film “The Wackness”; rocker Black Francis performs the world premiere of his original score to the silent film “The Golem”; director’s award for Mike Leigh.
