Las Vegas: Palazzo’s eco-friendly atrium goes green(er)

Amid the autumnal change of colors, the waterfall atrium at the Palazzo is going green.
The open space at the Palazzo seasonally changes its eye-catching displays, but this fall, the emphasis is on the environmentally friendly efforts underway at Palazzo and its sister property the Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip.
The display’s centerpiece -- a 1934 Hudson automobile draped in lichen, grapevines and other plants -- is an ode to the resorts’ alternative transportation initiatives. Both properties offer priority parking for hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles, as well as charging stations. They also feature valet parking for bicycles.
Solar panels displayed next to the car represent the Palazzo’s solar energy system. The hotel has more than 18,000 square feet of solar panels on its roof and says it is one of the largest such systems in the nation, providing hot water for swimming pools and spas.
A “recycled forest” is made of various items gathered on site, including construction debris, steel and used bars of soap. Wine bottles instead of leaves hang from the branches of a large tree.
The green garden will be on display through Nov. 10 and can be viewed around the clock. It’s free.
