Hawaii: Island Air to stop service to Molokai, but Ohana stepping in

Island Air will cease service to Molokai on April 1, it was announced this week, but a competitor will begin offering flights to Molokai in mid-March.
Island Air currently operates two daily roundtrips between Honolulu and Hoolehua. Starting March 11, Ohana, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Airlines, will begin providing three daily nonstops between the two airports.
“Now that we are certain the island of Molokai will have adequate air service to match its needs, we have decided to redeploy our aircraft to another route that needs more capacity,” Island Air Chief Executive Paul Casey said in a statement. He did not announce the destination those aircraft will now fly to.
Island Air will continue flying between Honolulu and Kauai, Lanai and Maui. The airline is owned by billionaire Larry Ellison, who in 2012 purchased virtually the entire island of Lanai.
In a news release, Island Air said it would contact passengers with confirmed reservations from April 2 onward to rebook them. Customers can also call (800) 388-1105.
