Santa Anita is completing a $15 million renovation designed to create a new audio-visual experience at the Arcadia track.
Chairman Keith Brackpool gave a tour to reporters on Monday night showing off the new clubhouse mezzanine that is now filled with 50 high-tech television monitors and a sound system that offers a movie-like experience.
Brackpool said he wants fans to experience the “splendor” associated with horse racing, from the sounds of hoofs hitting the dirt to jockeys shouting out during a race. For $8 admission into the clubhouse, fans could experience just that.
There’s also a new dining experience, with craft beers, wines and gourmet food selections.
“Our attempt was to bring back the live audience and have a wonderful time and show the magnificence of our sport,” Brackpool said.
The clubhouse will be open for opening day of Santa Anita’s 24-day autumn meeting on Friday. Other new areas, such as a sports lounge with seven TV screens 5 feet by 8 feet won’t be open until the Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 1-2. Also still to be unveiled is a new Chandelier room with a walnut floor.
