Buffalo defensive end IK Enemkpali will be a co-captain for the Bills on Thursday when they play his former team, the New York Jets.
That’s the same Enemkpali who has played in only three games this season and recorded just two tackles.
And, yes, it’s also the same guy who was suspended four games for punching Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the face during a locker room incident this summer.
Bills Coach Rex Ryan said Monday that he plans on upholding his tradition of allowing players to represent the team during the coin flip if they have any ties to the opposing team or the area in which they are playing.
So that means punch or no punch, Enemkpali will get the honor.
“I’ll get ripped or whatever, but I do this all the time,”said Ryan, who was fired as Jets coach during the off-season before being hired by Buffalo.
“That’s how I do the captains. If IK went out there by himself, maybe that would be a different statement. But that’s not what we do.”
