No. 1 North Carolina defeats Wofford, 78-58

Brice Johnson had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 1 North Carolina beat Wofford, 78-58, on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C., in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

Kennedy Meeks and Joel Berry II added 16 apiece for the Tar Heels (3-0). They shot 52.5%, outscored Wofford 50-18 in the paint and outrebounded the pesky Terriers 42-24, but couldn’t pull away until late.

Jaylen Allen scored 15 points for the Terriers (0-2), who returned three starters from a team coming off a 28-7 finish and hit nine three-pointers.

Wofford trailed 58-50 with nine minutes left, but Johnson scored on a stick-back and Nate Britt had consecutive steal-and-scores to put the Tar Heels up 64-50.

At No. 10 Gonzaga 91, Northern Arizona 52: Domantas Sabonis scored 26 points and Kyle Wiltjer added 23 as the Bulldogs (1-0) cruised at Spokane, Wash. Sabonis, a 6-foot-11 sophomore, made 12 of 13 shots in limited minutes and looked recovered from a recent back injury. Gonzaga shot 53% percent and won the rebound battle 53-31. at No. 21 Purdue 96, Incarnate Word 61: The Boilermakers (3-0) shot 72% from the field during a 53-point first half at West Lafayette, Ind., in a Hall of Fame Tipoff game. Isaac Haas scored 17 points for Purdue. Kyle Hittle led Incarnate Word (2-1) with 17.
