AT THE PLATE: First-base prospect C.J. Cron, who hit a score-tying, three-run home run in the ninth inning Thursday, hit a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Angels a 2-1 lead over the Cubs. But Chicago scored twice in the ninth, with top Cuban prospect Jorge Soler driving in the winning run with a triple to right-center. Andrew Romine homered against the Rockies.
ON THE MOUND: Joe Blanton had a rocky start against Colorado, allowing seven earned runs and eight hits, including four homers, in 3 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking one. Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki hit two of the homers. Reliever Michael Kohn struck out two in a scoreless inning against the Cubs.
EXTRA BASES: Third baseman David Freese made a nice play in the fourth inning against Chicago, charging Junior Lake’s bunt, making a bare-hand grab and off-balance throw to first for the out. … Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher spent Friday morning in Angels camp, donning a uniform, taking batting practice and shagging fly balls.
UP NEXT: Angels vs. Arizona at noon PST at Tempe Diablo Stadium. On the air: TV: Fox Sports West. Radio: 830 AM.
