Football: Westlake, Chaminade receive at-large berths from Pac-5 Division
- Share via
One of the biggest uncertainties regarding the Pac-5 Division playoffs was cleared up Sunday morning when the Southern Section announced that Westlake (7-3) and Chaminade (7-3) have been awarded the two at-large berths for the 16-team bracket.
Last season, the at-large berths went to two teams from the Trinity League.
This time, the criteria for determining the teams that include strength of schedule, strength of league, strength against common opponets, win-loss record and head to head competition favored Westlake and Chaminade.
Westlake’s nonleague win over Santa Margarita proved decisive. Ditto for Chaminade’s nonleague win over St. Bonaventure. And both schools played much stronger nonleague opponents than JSerra (7-3), the fourth-place team in the Trinity.
Long Beach Poly, a 19-time champion, will not be in the Pac-5 playoffs.
Here’s the link to complete at-large teams.
Among the most interesting, El Dorado, 0-10 on the field, got an at-large berth in the Southern Division thanks to a forfeit win over Canyon, which also made the playoffs. El Dorado’s strength of schedule was decisive.
