It was last summer when I went out to an L.A. Windward football practice and then assistant coach Chuck Price assured me that now 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior offensive lineman Roy Hemsley would one day be getting college football scholarship offers in bunches.
You can say the Price is right.
Hemsley, a basketball player turned football player, picked up his latest offer from UCLA on Tuesday. He previously had offers from USC, California, Arizona State, Washington State and San Diego State.
Price nicknamed Hemsley, “Green Room Roy,” for the green room on NFL draft day.
Hemsley has been a key player for Windward’s basketball team, but football appears to be in his future.
Colleges are intrigued by basketball players showing promise when going out for football for the first time. El Camino Real center Julian Rochelin signed with San Diego State as a defensive end after playing the sport for the first time this past season.
