Football: Raul Lara resigns as coach at Long Beach Poly

Raul Lara, the football coach at Long Bech Poly for 13 years, has resigned, Principal Joe Carlson confirmed on Friday.
“He’s tired,” Carlson said. “He’s had a great run.”
He won 12 Moore League championships, five Southern Section championships and had a record of 142-30. He had to deal with expectations every season that the Jackrabbits should never lose.
Carlson said the school will post the opening on the Southern Section website on Monday. Lara was a walk-on coach and it’s uncertain whether there will be a full-time teaching position to go with the coaching job. The position will close by Jan. 7.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Turley applied for the position previously and figures to be a strong candidate again. He’s a teacher at Poly.
