Football: Freshman QB Matt Corral makes quite a first impression
- Share via
There could be a quarterback controversy brewing at Oaks Christian after quite a varsity debut for freshman quarterback Matt Corral, who completed nine of 15 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns and also scored a touchdown in the Lions’ 48-3 win over Venice.
Corral had been injured and didn’t play in Oaks Christian’s first two losses. He came off the bench in the second quarter on Friday night and handled things like he was a veteran.
Michael Pittman caught four passes for 119 yards.
Coach Bill Redell will begin to evaluate things on Saturday, but when a freshman plays as well as Corral did, it means the Lions will have to take a long look at him.
Also making his debut was junior running back Gil’Scott Jackson, who gained 35 yards.
