With 10 returning starters on defense from a 16-0 team, Corona del Mar knew its defense would be good. It’s about to find out how good with a Friday night game against El Toro (2-0) at Newport Harbor.
Quarterback Trey Tinsley should present the strongest test yet for Corona del Mar, which is 2-0 and has a 28-game win streak.
Tinsley has completed 55 of 89 passes for 559 yards and seven touchdowns.
“This is the best team we’ve played against in some time,” Corona del Mar Coach Scott Meyer said.
One surprise for Corona del Mar has been the play of new quarterback Peter Bush, a 6-foot-2 junior who was the backup last season and played junior varsity.
“We thought he could be pretty good,” Meyer said. “So far, he’s played well.”
