Football: Arleta likes its underdog role
There’s only one unbeaten team left in City Section Division I. It’s 12-0 Arleta, but the Mustangs are hardly considered in the same class as Narbonne, Dorsey and Crenshaw, right?
“There’s Narbonne, Dorsey, Crenshaw and who?” Arleta Coach Bill Coan said.
Arleta, the No. 7 seed, plays at No. 6 Crenshaw on Friday.
Coan said “it’s an honor” to face Crenshaw Coach Robert Garrett.
“He’s one of the best,” he said.
Arleta will have to deal with Crenshaw’s speed and a red-hot junior quarterback in Daiyan Henley.
But Arleta’s offensive line, led by the East Valley League lineman of the year, Jesse Hernandez, has plans to create opportunities for running back Isaiah Gable. The Mustangs upset No. 2-seeded Birmingham last week.
The winner will face Narbonne or Dorsey in the final on Dec. 5 at Cerritos College.
