Cross country: Burbank has a star in the making in Candela Fernandez
- Share via
In girls’ cross country, Burbank has an athlete everyone could be soon talking about.
Junior Candela Fernandez started her season with a scorching time of 11 minutes, 14.86 seconds at the Fastback Shootout at Mt. San Antonio College. About the only one running that fast has been former Simi Valley runner Sarah Baxter.
That was the fastest girls’ time of the day and helped Burbank win the junior girls’ heat 1 competition.
Fernandez gave a hint of her ability last season as a sophomore. She finished seventh in the Division 1 1,600 and 3,200 in track and field.
