Boys’ basketball: School names are gone, replaced by ‘Beach Boys’
- Share via
The CIF doesn’t want teams representing their high schools during competition in out-of-season sports, so fall basketball leagues across the Southland are having to come up with new names for the schools competing.
Burrel Lee, the basketball operations director for the St. John Bosco Saturday league (oops, it’s now the Buzz Elite League), has assigned names for each team.
It’s a tough task unless you have a flare for marketing.
Redondo has become the Beach Boys. Compton is C-House. St. John Bosco is Bellflower Buzz. Long Beach Poly is Eastside Green & Gold. Downey is the Firestone Guys. South Gate is The Gate. Westminster is Hwy 22 Red.
L.A. Jordan is LA Dwags. Dominguez is Black & Red Attack
I’m sure Nike or Adidas would love to become a team sponsor.
