Baseball: Great Oak left-hander Zack Noll is sophomore standout
- Share via
The first month of the baseball season is almost complete, and sophomore left-hander Zack Noll of Great Oak deserves attention for bursting onto the varsity scene as if he were a senior.
He played freshman ball last year, and in his first varsity season, he’s 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA for 9-1 Great Oak.
He’s 6 feet 5 and still growing. He throws in the mid-80s, and what’s interesting about him is that his velocity gets better as the game goes on. That makes it difficult for Coach Eric Morton to try to remove Noll.
“The ball gets on you quick,” Morton said. “He’s throwing a lot of strikes.”
Noll and senior Brad Wegman (3-0), a USC recruit, give Great Oak a formidable one-two pitching combination for the tough Southwestern League.
