Baseball: Big college debuts for SoCal products

Several former high school baseball standouts from Southern California made impressive debuts this weekend in the collegiate ranks.
Former Capistrano Valley catcher Aaron Barnett went nine for 12 for Pepperdine, helping the Waves win two of three games from St. John’s.
Former JSerra outfielder Clay Williamson went six for eight for Cal State Fullerton, helping the Titans win two of three games.
Former Mater Dei catcher Jeremy Martinez had five hits for USC in a three-game sweep of Northwestern.
Former Cypress shortstop David Fletcher went five for 13 for Loyola Marymount, which won two of three games against Utah Valley.
Former Valencia catcher Brian Mundell, a sophomore, went five for nine with two doubles in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s sweep of Kansas State.
