Dodgers investigate Alex Guerrero-Miguel Olivo altercation

The day after, the Dodgers were remaining mum while conducting an investigation into the Tuesday dugout fight in Salt Lake City where prized prospect Alex Guerrero reportedly had a piece of his ear bitten off by catcher Miguel Olivo.

Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten said they hoped to have the investigation completed Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department said they met with Guerrero at a hospital Tuesday but he declined to file charges. Guerrero has four years to file.

Meanwhile, Guerrero’s agent, Scott Boras, told Yahoo Sports’ Tim Brown that “cannibalizing a player is not a part of baseball.” Guerrero remained hospitalized after surgery and Boras said he could be out for five weeks.

“The custom and practice of a locker room over the course of the season does include confrontation and sometimes physical altercations with your teammates,” Boras told Brown. “But shooting, stabbing or cannibalizing a player is not a part of baseball or being a proper teammate. That’s extreme and deserves grand discipline.”

The incident occurred in Salt Lake City where triple-A Albuquerque was scheduled to play again Wednesday night.

The Salt Lake City Tribune said Tuesday was: “the annual Salt Lake Bees’ Prevention Dimensions Day, which promotes, among other things, violence prevention. The fight in the Isotopes’ dugout occurred in front of a nearly sold-out crowd, most of whom were children.”

Calls to Olivo’s agent were not returned.
