The Chargers officially picked up the fifth-year option on running back Melvin Gordon, extending the former first-round pick’s contract through the 2019 season.
Gordon ran for 1,1105 yards and caught 58 passes for 476 yards last season, when he scored 12 touchdowns. It was the first time in three years Gordon rushed for more than 1,000 yards.
Gordon, 25, will earn more than $5.6 million in the fifth year of his contract.
The 15th pick of the 2015 draft fought through knee soreness to appear in all 16 games last season — another career first. He hasn’t been at the team’s voluntary offseason conditioning workouts.
