The Huntington Beach High girls’ tennis team launched its 2013 season Tuesday and scored a big victory.
The Oilers dominated in both singles and doubles action and posted an 18-0 shutout of visiting Westminster.
“Being that it was an opening game, I was very proud of the performance by all of our players,” Huntington Coach Sam Sarria said. “Everyone performed well and all the girls came through.”
The Oilers travel Thursday to face Laguna Hills in a 3 p.m. nonleague match.

In girls’ volleyball, Fountain Valley’s season debut was a success Tuesday. The Barons won their opener by sweeping visiting El Modena, 25-16, 25-22, 25-19.
“I thought at times that we played pretty well, pretty consistent,” Fountain Valley Coach Adam Cutrell said. “The match did show us the things that we need to work on, but the girls were determined to grind through when things weren’t going well.”
