High school roundup: Lamie’s hat trick lifts CdM girls’ soccer

Senior captain Elizabeth Lamie scored three goals as the Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer team beat Woodbridge 4-1 in a Pacific Coast League game at home Monday.

Ava McKenzie added a goal and an assist for the Sea Kings (11-4-5, 5-2-2 in league), who share the No. 10 spot in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll. Katharine Caston, Kate Briggs and Kate Montgomery also had assists.

With one league match remaining, CdM is tied for second with Beckman, which is also 5-2-2 in league. First-place Northwood is 7-2 in league and has clinched at least a share of the league title. The Timberwolves can win it outright with a victory at Beckman on Wednesday.

CdM’s final league game is Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Irvine.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 2, Woodbridge 0: The Sea Kings improved to 6-3-0 in the Pacific Coast League at Mark Daily Field on Monday, clinching second place and a berth into the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

CdM (13-5-1 overall) closes out the regular season at home against Irvine on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

Fairmont Prep 3, Pacifica Christian Orange County 2: Juniors Nick Kutscher and Hunter Alexander scored for the Tritons in Monday’s San Joaquin League game at home.

Pacifica Christian (6-11-2, 2-9-1 in league) wraps up the regular season at Brethren Christian (1-14-0, 1-10-0) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Orangewood Academy 79, Pacifica Christian Orange County 58: After reaching the CIF Southern Section Division 6 finals last season, the Tritons will miss the postseason this season. Monday’s San Joaquin League loss on the road ended Pacifica Christian’s season.

The Tritons, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 5AAA, finished 10-16 overall and fourth in league at 3-5. They cannot qualify as an at-large team because they are below .500 overall.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 41, Marina 36: Freshman forward Willa Rath had 11 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots for the host Sailors in Monday’s Sunset League contest, and junior forward Katie Nguyen had a triple-double — 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals — for the Seahawks.

Junior guard Lexi Alvarez added nine points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists for the Sailors (9-14, 3-6 in league). Sophomore forward Chloe Swanson had six points, 18 rebounds and six steals, and sophomore forward Ashleigh McPhie chipped in with four points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Senior guard Jasmine Broussard added six points, five steals and three rebounds for Marina (4-21, 0-9).

Edison 56, Fountain Valley 37: Senior forward Finley Garnett scored a team-high 17 points to lead the visiting Chargers in a Sunset League game on Monday.

Senior center Ashley Niemand had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Edison (15-10, 7-2 in league). Senior guards Hope Nguyen and Gabby Samiy had 11 points and nine points, respectively.

Edison hosts Huntington Beach on Wednesday night in a game that could determine the second seed out of the Sunset League. The tip is at 7 p.m.

The Barons fell to 9-17 overall and 2-7 in league.

Godinez 62, Costa Mesa 33: The visiting Mustangs dropped to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in the Orange Coast League on Monday.

Costa Mesa finishes the regular season at Estancia in the second meeting of the Battle for the Bell on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Samueli Academy 50, Pacifica Christian Orange County 26: The visiting Tritons fell to 5-9 overall and 2-7 in the Express League on Monday.
