High School Girls’ Basketball Roundup: Swanson has double-double in Sailors win

Chloe Swanson had 10 points, 12 rebounds and three steals to lead the Newport Harbor High girls’ basketball team to its first win of the season.

The Sailors beat Mission Viejo 44-35 on Saturday in a Corona del Mar Tip-off Tournament game.

Lexi Alvarez added 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Willa Rath had five points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.

Newport Harbor (1-3) will compete in the Ocean View Hawk Holiday Classic next week.

Oxford Academy 53, Marina 32

Katie Nguyen had 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals, but Marina fell to the host Patriots in the championship game of the Oxford Academy Tournament on Saturday.

Kat Robinson had seven points and four rebounds, and Jasmine Broussard added four points and three steals for the Vikings (3-2).

The Patriots (4-0) were led by center Austyn Masuno, who produced 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks.

Angie Choi also had 15 points and five rebounds for Oxford, and Sophia Chan chipped in with 11 points.

Oxford won its host tournament for the first time in the event’s 13-year history.

Both teams will be partaking in the Ocean View Hawk Holiday Classic next week, with Oxford Academy serving as one of the host sites for the tournament.
