Briefs: Baseball camp for Laguna players starts Monday

The Laguna Beach High baseball program’s summer baseball session for returning high school players only starts Monday at Skipper Carrillo Field on campus.
The camp will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday each week through July 30.
On the heels of the high school summer camp comes a Youth Summer Baseball Camp offered by the Laguna Beach baseball program which begins Tuesday at Skipper Carrillo Field. The camp is open to youth ages 5 to 14, plus incoming freshmen students and will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday each week through July 31.

Volleyball tourneys coming
Two upcoming girls’ beach volleyball tournaments will be held next month at Main Beach.
The Laguna Girls’ 16-Under Laguna Open Volleyball Tournament will be held Thursday, and the Girls’ 14-U Laguna Open will run July 11.

Dries, Fischer on U.S. roster
Annika Dries and Makenzie Fischer of Laguna Beach have been named to the USA Water Polo Women’s Senior National Team’s 15-player roster. Team USA currently is in Kirishi, Russia competing in the Kirishi Cup through Saturday.
Dries scored once Tuesday in Team USA’s tournament-opening, 13-10 victory over Hungary. Dries then scored a team-high four goals, including two in the fourth quarter, and Fischer one goal, in Wednesday’s 10-6 win over Russia.
Team USA plays Spain Friday and closes out the tournament Saturday against The Netherlands.
