High School Roundup: Laguna Beach girls’ water polo beats Newport Harbor

Emma Lineback and Molly Renner each scored three goals in leading the Laguna Beach High School girls’ water polo team to a 14-8 victory over host Newport Harbor on Saturday in a Surf League match.
Laguna Beach improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in league.
Taylor Smith had five goals for the Sailors (1-1, 1-1), and goalkeeper Anna Reed contributed 11 saves.
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Fountain Valley 26, Huntington Beach 31: The visiting Barons improved to 4-0 in Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meets this season on Saturday.
Dezi Hernandez (second, 15 minutes 54.6 seconds) and Benjamin Prado (third, 16:15.7) finished in the top five for Fountain Valley.
Huntington Beach junior Nolan Walt won the race with a time of 15:47.9.
Edison 25, Marina 32: Jeff Ritter ran 15:55.3 to earn the individual win for the visiting Chargers on Saturday in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.
Wylie Cleugh (fourth, 16:03.4) and Christopher Chan (fifth, 16:03.7) also produced top-five showings for Edison.
Ocean View 17, Westminster 49: Parker Walpole finished the race in exactly 17 minutes, edging teammate Diego Gonzalez by one second to earn the individual win for the visiting Seahawks on Saturday in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.
Michael Hernandez (third, 17:45), Joel Gil Ramirez (fifth, 18:25) and Adrian Ramirez (sixth, 18:42) filled out the scoring five for Ocean View.
Estancia vs. Santa Ana: Juan Ramos ran 15:43.0 in winning the race for the visiting Saints on Friday in an Orange Coast League dual meet.
Andres Aguirre (19:29.1) was the top performer for the Eagles, who started just three runners in the contest. Teams need to have five runners finish to produce a team score.
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Fountain Valley 23, Huntington Beach 32: Kaho Cichon ran 17:46.9 to earn the individual victory and lead the visiting Barons in Saturday’s Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet.
Lauren Berg (fourth, 18:31.0), Leah Ferris (fifth, 18:51.8), Kiera Tallas (sixth, 19:07.8) and Samantha Martinez (seventh, 19:08.0) completed the scoring quintet for the Barons.
Quinn Roldan (second, 18:15.9) and Claire Lewis (third, 18:19.9) were the top performers for Huntington Beach.
Marina 15, Edison 48: The host Vikings posted the minimum team point total in Saturday’s win in Huntington Beach Union High School District action.
Marikay Schwab (16:56.5), Makena Castillo (17:28.8), Madelyn Fracassa (19:31.8), Janae Chiu (19:56.6) and Mia Lomon (20:13.1) grabbed the top five spots for Marina.
Marina improved to 4-0 in district duals, setting the stage for a matchup of unbeatens when the Vikings host Fountain Valley on March 13.
Ocean View 19, Westminster 44: Elizabeth King won the race in 20:19 to lead the Seahawks on Saturday in a Huntington Beach Union High School District dual meet on the road.
Ocean View grabbed the top three spots in the race, with Ester Hile (21:30) and Leilani Martinez (21:39) coming in next after King.
Santa Ana 24, Estancia 33: Guadalupe Olivares placed second for the host Eagles with a time of 22:57.9 on Friday in an Orange Coast League dual meet at home.
Santa Ana’s Yesenia Capiz was the race winner, finishing with a time of 22:18.5.
