SOUNDING OFF: Council dancing around marijuana issue

I was reminded of the song and dance the mayor in the musical “Greatest Little Whorehouse in Texas” does when he belts out how he gets around a controversial issue, “by doing the two-step.”

This is what it appears our City Council is doing with reference to pot dispensaries (“Halt put on pot dispensaries,” Feb. 27 ).

This is not a new issue before this council. I recall at least a year ago someone was planning on opening one up in the city.

What is taking so long for this council to establish the legal parameters for moving on?

This council thrusts its chest when attempting to put forth the image of business friendly, but I’m sorry, I’ve only witnessed the hoops and barriers placed before those wanting to open a business in our city.

Shame on you, City Council. More time now goes by where those suffering will have to arrange illegal ways of getting their medicine, attempt to get to some city that is compassionate, or suffer without.

Let’s be honest. You just don’t want this in your yard.
