Hogan claims title

NEWPORT BEACH — Hailey Hogan, who will be a sophomore at Corona del Mar High in the fall, and her partner, Clarke Spinosa of Claremont, completed a dominant run to the title at the National X-Treme World Tennis High School Championships, completed Sunday at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
Hogan and Spinosa finished 5-0 in round-robin play, then defeated the second-best qualifier, Sacramento’s Robert Rugen and Blair Reed, 18-7, in the title match.
Andrew Kurzwell and Jaclyn Smrecek, who both attend Sage Hill School, finished sixth in the six-team field in which teams played one set of boys’ singles, girls’ singles and mixed doubles.
Justin Thompson and Debi Filipovich, who finished third, won the male and female sportsmanship awards, which were World Team Tennis tennis balls signed by Billie Jean King.
