Pilot garners awards

The Coastline Pilot received two major awards from the California Newspaper Publishers Assn. Better Newspapers Contest for 2006.

The awards were announced at the organization’s annual meeting, held in San Francisco over the weekend.

The paper took second place in the General Excellence category, the third time the paper has been so honored.

It also took first place for Best Website “” for the second year in a row.

In addition, City Editor Cindy Frazier was awarded a Certificate of Merit in Writing for a story about the Meister family’s return to Bluebird Canyon after the 2005 landslide. The story, “I’m happy to be home,” appeared in the Sept. 26, 2006, issue.

Sports reporter Michael Sciacca was also honored with a Certificate of Merit for best overall sports coverage.

The Certificate of Merit is given to entries that are judged in the top 10% in their categories.
