Man jumps to his death at hospital
A Laguna Beach man jumped from the fourth story of the parking structure at South Coast Medical Center to his death Wednesday morning at about 8:20 a.m., Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Darin Lenyi said.
The victim was identified as Michael Salta, 57.
There was no suspicious evidence found at the scene indicating foul play, and a note located at the victim’s home suggested the victim committed suicide, police said.
The victim landed on the roadway adjacent to the main entrance to the medical facility.
Hospital staff went to the victim’s aid. Police and fire units responded, and the victim died at the scene.
A service for Salta is planned at noon on Sunday at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar.
Police hire public information specialist
The Laguna Beach Police Department has restructured a records clerk position in the police department into a new information systems specialist post, City Manager Ken Frank announced Jan. 12.
This change has become essential with the continuing reliance on new technology, especially with the installation of the new computer-aided dispatch system.
The police chief has hired Scott Wold, who for the last 17 years has worked for the County of San Bernardino’s information technology department.
