Senior artist award winners announced
The 2007 Senior Art Exhibit has announced its winners, who were recognized at this year’s awards ceremony on Jan. 13.
In two-dimensional art, Elizabeth Fortin took first place for “Rainbow in the Clouds.” Loyola Lucero took second place for “Path to Nowhere.” Rik Lawrence took third place for “Tutira Dawn.”
In acrylics, Sabra Lande took top honors for “Fantasy,” Frances Collato took second place for “Chinese Peasants Piling Hay,” and Elena Srebnik came in third with “Morning Fog.”
In multi-media, Dan Young took first with “The Old Man.” Al Weingartner took second with “Side by Seaside,” and Marilyn Todd won third for her “Joy.”
In oils, Lana Perry took first for “Red Hat Lady.” Carla Gach won second place for “Paint Brush,” and P. Maurice took third for “Chasing the Wind.” David Randel received an honorable mention for “Temple Crag.”
In watercolor, Carole Zavala won top honors for “Still Life,” Vic Cumming took second for “Eagle Eye,” Doris Jackson won third place for “The Regatta,” and there were two honorable mentions: Juliann Hodjera’s “Park Scene I” and Doris Casserly’s “Shots.”
City invites arts funding applications
Applications are now available for city business improvement district cultural arts funding. Applications will be accepted from nonprofit organizations with programs that offer cultural events providing the greatest benefit in meeting the cultural needs of Laguna Beach and its visitors.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, and awards will be made July 1. Application forms are available online at www.lagunabeachcity.net.
Art-A-Fair seeks new artists
The Art-A-Fair Festival is seeking new artists for its 2007 season. The show will run from June 29 to Sept. 2.
Jury day will be Feb. 11, and will be held at the Boys and Girls Club, 1085 Laguna Canyon Road. Artists are invited to submit work in person or by mail; mail submissions are due Jan. 20.
Processing and acceptance of work will be held between 8 and 11 a.m., and artists in all media are invited to submit their work, including oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, drawings, photography, sculpture, jewelry, glass and wood. The fee is $30 per medium.

Sawdust Studio Tour seeks local artists
The Sawdust Art Festival is seeking professional artists who would like to participate in the upcoming Artists’ Studio Tour, scheduled for April 14. About 200 collectors attend the annual event.
The tour is not a gallery visit; only working studios, which may be in private homes or dedicated spaces, are on the tour. Participating artists do not have to be Sawdust exhibitors.
To be considered, working artists must have studios in North Laguna, downtown, Laguna Canyon or south of downtown to Diamond St.

Sawdust announces spring class schedule
The Sawdust Art Festival has announced the class schedule for its seventh-annual Spring Into Art program.
Professional art instructors will teach in several art workshops March 17,18, 24, 25 and 31, and April 1. Classes meet from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sundays.
The class fee includes two days of instruction, all materials and a catered lunch; classes are limited to 10 students.
