Board, PTA deliver sobering message

Drug and alcohol awareness events will be the focus at Huntington

Beach High School this spring. The PTA has teamed up with the

Substance Abuse Advisory Board to help keep kids safe and sober

during prom and graduation nights. As part of the effort, the “Every

15 Minutes” program is being planned. The program includes a

simulated car accident and emphasizes the fact the every 15 minutes

someone in the United States dies from an alcohol-related traffic

collision.

Wishing a happy birthday to the Bard

Students and staff at Pegasus School celebrated William

Shakespeare’s birthday during the week of April 18 with Shakespearean

activities, including a presentation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,”

a demonstration of fencing, and a Shakespeare recitation contest.

Shakespeare in American Communities is a program sponsored by the

National Endowment for the Arts. The competition was facilitated by

Pegasus School English teachers, and representatives of the Carpenter

Performing Arts Center judged the finalists. Shakespeare month

culminated Friday when more than 60 students and faculty dressed in

period clothing, learned Shakespearean-era dances and ended the day

with an Elizabethan picnic.
