Spring will be sprung at South Coast

GREER WYLDER

The 16th annual Southern California Spring Garden Show, a four-day

garden extravaganza, begins today at South Coast Plaza.

Shoppers can choose from specialty garden items brought in by more

than 75 vendors, and national garden experts will share gardening

secrets at informative seminars. The list of speakers includes

authors like P. Allen Smith, Katherine Whiteside, and Pat Welsh.

On Saturday and Sunday, children can participate in special

events, including exotic animal shows, craft projects, storytelling

and bug shows. There will be a display of miniature landscapes

created by elementary school children, and there will be an iris show

at Suite 219 near Macy’s Home Store.

This year’s competition garden theme, “Landscaping for Small

Spaces,” features designs by landscape architects, designers and

college horticulture students.

“As we celebrate our 16th anniversary hosting the Southern

California Spring Garden Show, the competition gardens will continue

to be the highlight, giving visitors a variety of unique ideas for

their own gardens,” said South Coast Plaza’s Debra Gunn Downing.

“Visitors can then shop at many of our retail stores for additional

garden inspirations to take home with them.”

Parking and admission are free. The garden show encompasses all

three levels of the Crate & Barrel/Macy’s Home Store wing at South

Coast Plaza.

Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. (714) 435-2171.

Registration is $75 prior to April 20 and $85 after.

aware of how you’re doing your workout and how to make it easier and

more fun,” said Nancy Linsley, a Feldenkrais instructor at the

studio.

Linsley also teaches awareness-through-movement classes, based on

the Feldenkrais Method, each Wednesday from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

The first class is free, single classes are $18, and a series of four

classes costs $60.

The method is designed to eliminate pain and stiffness, improve

geared for all ages and fitness levels.
