Man wakes up to alleged racist message
A Surf City man told police he woke up on Sunday to find a racist
message written on his fence, police said.
Vanoy Scott, 64, has lived in Huntington Beach for about 20 years,
Huntington Beach Sgt. Dave Bunetta said. Scott, who lives in the 5200
block of Heil Avenue, told police he has never had problems such as
the one he found over the weekend, when he discovered a racial slur
written on his back fence. The graffiti used language demeaning to
African Americans.
Little evidence was found, and neither police or Scott have any
idea who defaced Scott’s fence, Bunetta said. Detectives will
probably interview neighbors to find out if anyone in the area has
any idea who may have committed the crime.
Brothers’ argument escalates to stabbing
A local teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault with a
deadly weapon after he allegedly stabbed his brother.
Gregory Cunningham, 21, lived in the 9700 block of Brookhaven
Circle with his 18-year-old brother, Kendall Cunningham. Police said
an argument at the home escalated into a fight between the two, and
Kendall Cunningham reportedly stabbed his brother in the chest with a
knife at about 11:50 a.m. on Friday.
Gregory Cunningham was not seriously wounded and was able to call
police, Bunetta said. Paramedics were able to treat his injuries and
he was not hospitalized. Kendall Cunningham was found walking on the
street about one half hour after the stabbing and was arrested.
