Fund-raiser for Slater

Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Fountain Valley firefighters will

work with hosts and servers at Claim Jumper Restaurant in South Coast

Plaza tonight to raise money for Newport Beach paramedic Brian Slater

who was seriously injured in a body surfing accident on Aug. 30.

The firefighters will be serving tables from 4 to 10 p.m. with a

“boot in hand” allowing guests to make donations. The proceeds will

go to the Newport Beach Fire Assn. that has set up a fund to assist

Slater’s family.

Slater is now in St. Jude’s Hospital in Fullerton undergoing

physiotherapy.
