Staying away from sunburns

The Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot went to Main Beach and asked some

youngsters, ‘Do you use sunscreen and are you afraid of getting skin

cancer?’

“I don’t wear as much sunscreen now as I used to because I don’t

get as burnt. I’m not too worried about skin cancer because I don’t

tan or burn or anything.”

Emily Estep, 16

“I do wear it a lot because I like to get burned because it will

eventually turn into a tan. I get nervous, I have fair skin and am

more apt to burn. My mom tells me to look out and I do.”

Kate Wiltsey, 16

“I don’t use it as often as I should -- mainly out of laziness.

I’m not too worried, but figure they’ll come up with a cure when I

get older.”

Gwen O’Connell, 19

“I usually wear it a lot on my face because I care a lot about it,

but I’m not as careful as I should be. But I do use it.”

Stephanie Reynolds, 19

“I do not wear a lot of sunscreen because I am lazy and I hate to

put it on -- and a sunburn usually turns into a tan, so it’s OK.”
