Here are some of the decisions coming out of the Newport Beach
City Council on Tuesday:
STUDY SESSION CANCELED
People who were looking forward to a discussion on Crystal Cove
State Park projects learned on Tuesday that they’ll have to keep
looking forward to it for at least a few more weeks. The study
session was canceled on Tuesday because not enough council members
had attended.
Besides the Crystal Cove projects, presentations on the Corona del
Mar Vision Plan, the Pelican Hill Resort and the Southern California
Assn. of Governments were also postponed. It’s likely they will all
show up on the next agenda or another in the near future.
RECYCLING FEE INCREASE
Despite the objections of two community members, the council
approved an annual increase in the fees that residents pay to have
their recycling sorted. The 20-cent-per-month increase, from $2.46 to
$2.66, is to cover the increased cost to the city for the contracted
service.
ARTS GRANTS
The council took care of its annual approval of $40,000 in arts
grants. The amount is divvied up among cultural groups who applied
for grants. Awardees received amounts ranging from $1,000 to $3,650
for cultural projects. Recipients include South Coast Repertory,
Newport Beach Sister Cities Assn., the Newport Beach Film Festival,
the Orange County Museum of Art, Baroque Music Festival and Ballet
Pacifica.
