Steve Klosterman, an all-Sunset League volleyball player who
graduated from Marina High in June, was part of the Long Beach Club
18-Black team that claimed gold in the 18s Division at last weekend’s
24th annual U.S.A. Volleyball Boys Junior Olympics.
The event was held in Phoenix.
The Long Beach Club 18-Black team consisted of 15 players, eight
of whom attended Orange County schools.
The squad defeated the No. 1 seed Central California team in the
quarterfinal round, 25-15, 28-30, 15-11.
Long Beach Club 18-Black then rallied to defeat Balboa Bay
18-Puma, a team whose 13-player roster was entirely made up of Orange
County athletes, in the semifinal round, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12.
The team went up against North Shore Milwaukee, a team they had
played and beaten the previous day, in the division tournament final.
Long Beach Club 18-Black again won, this time by a 25-13, 25-19
score.
Klosterman was one of three Sunset League players on the Long
Beach Club 18-Black team which included Tyler Hagstrom and Norm
Hutton of Fountain Valley High.
