Stein appointed to league of theaters

The League of Resident Theatres, an association of the nation’s 75

largest nonprofit resident professional theaters, appointed Laguna

Playhouse Executive Director Richard Stein to its 16-member executive

committee at its May 2 meeting in New York City.

The league is active in collective bargaining and addresses other

artistic and management needs of its members. The Laguna Playhouse is

one of 10 league member theaters in California. The others are

American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, Berkeley Repertory

Theatre, the Center Theatre Group (Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson

Theatre) and Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, La Jolla Playhouse and

Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, Pasadena Playhouse, San

Youth Theatre’s project ready

The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre’s final class project,

“Parallel Lives” written by Kathy Najimy and Maureen Gaffney, will be

presented at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Moulton

Theatre, Laguna Playhouse. Tickets are $5. The play contains adult

language and content, and is recommended for ages 13 and older.

The Laguna Playhouse Repertory 2 Class (ages 15 to 18) has taken

the text and divided up the vignettes into individual acting and

directing projects. The cast of 14 play roles ranging from Catholic

schoolgirls to the two “supreme beings” responsible for setting the

whole world in motion, from ego distribution to who should give

birth. Parallel Lives pokes fun at topics such as the new age

movement, middle-aged women taking their first women studies class

and the dysfunction in contemporary romantic relationships.
