Pirates comes up short

The Orange Coast College baseball team collected 10 hits, but lost,
6-3, in an Orange Empire Conference game against host Cypress
Saturday.
The Chargers had 11 hits. OCC dropped to 15-16-1, 7-12 in conference play.
“We just didn’t get timely hits,” Pirates Coach John Altobelli
said. “We had bases loaded a couple times, and just didn’t do
anything. This team is capable of making a strong run, and we need to
do that to make the playoffs.”
OCC sophomore Ryan Mathes slugged a two-run home run in the eighth
to pull the deficit to 5-3, but the Pirates could not compete the
comeback.
Coast returns to action in the College of the Sequoias Tournament
Wednesday through Friday. The Pirates will close out the regular
season against Fullerton, April 24 at OCC, and April 26 at Fullerton.
