* TENNIS: Several Orange Coast College women’s tennis players
advanced through the first two rounds of the Orange Empire Conference
individual tournament Tuesday at Irvine Valley College.
Sabrina Tanamal, Leah Becker, Ashley Nelson, Kai Moriyama and
Rachael Sessum all won second-round singles matches to advance to
Thursday’s Round of 16, also at IVC.
In doubles, the OCC pairings of Becker-Nelson and Tanamal-Sessum
were victorious in the second round and Becker-Nelson also earned a
third-round victory.
Knights handle Sailors
* TENNIS: Host Foothill High defeated Newport Harbor, 14-4, in a
Sea View League boys tennis match Tuesday.
Charlie Farmer and Robert Khoury won singles sets for the Sailors,
who fell to 6-4, 2-3 in league. Foothill improved to 11-3, 5-0.

* TENNIS: The No. 3 doubles team of juniors Drew Roeser and Kent
Kuran won 18 of 20 games to help host Sage Hill School earn a 15-3
Academy League boys tennis triumph over Oxford Academy Tuesday at
Park Newport.
“Those guys played really well,” said Lightning Coach A.G.
Longoria, whose team, ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division
V, improved to 4-6, 3-2 in league.

* SOFTBALL: The Sage Hill School softball team broke away from a
2-2 first-inning tie and defeated visiting Whitney, 10-4, in Academy League action Tuesday.
Freshman Debbie Yoder-Lee went 2 for 3 for Sage Hill (6-6, 2-1 in
league). Yoder-Lee, the Lightning’s center fielder, also threw a
runner out at the plate, Sage Hill Coach Jim Percival said.

Golden State Athletic Conference.
* BASEBALL: Vanguard University right-hander Matt Caston pitched a
five-hit shutout to help the Lions defeat host Cal Baptist, 7-0,
Tuesday in a Golden State Athletic Conference baseball game.
Justin Millward and Robert Cruz each had two hits and each drove
in a run for the Lions (19-20, 8-10 in conference).
