Fire damages office in high-rise building

A fire caused about $100,000 in mostly smoke and water damage to a

10-story Newport Beach building early Wednesday morning, officials

said. No one was injured in the 5:10 a.m. blaze.

Firefighters located the fire in an office suite on the ninth

floor of the high-rise building in the 1300 block of Dove Street,

said Donna Boston, public information officer for the Newport Beach

Fire Department.

The building’s sprinklers kept the fire in control, but the water

damaged several floors of the building, Boston said.

Twenty firefighters from Newport Beach and the Orange County Fire

Authority, including a battalion chief from Newport, responded with

four engines and two trucks. Investigators said the fire was

electrical.
