Lobos rally past Eagles
Estancia High junior starting pitcher Brad Young belted a two-run
homer to center field in the first inning to stake himself to an
early lead and entered the fifth with the game tied, 2-2.
But host Los Amigos erupted for five hits and five runs in the
fifth and pulled away for an 11-5 nonleague baseball victory
Wednesday.
Young was 3 for 4 with four RBIs to pace the 10-hit Estancia
attack. Greg Hughes was 2 for 4 with a run and Cullen Crom also went
2 for 4 for the Eagles, who fell to 1-4.
Los Amigos, coached by former Estancia assistant Dave Austin,
improved to 3-3.
Estancia plays crosstown rival Costa Mesa tonight at 7 at TeWinkle
Park in a nonleague game that, along with the two schools’ two Golden
West League meetings, will decide the winner of the Paul Troxel
Trophy, a perpetual award that goes to the series winner.
