Sailors give it away, 2-1
Newport Harbor High softball pitcher Kim Moore continued her strong
start Wednesday, but six Sailor errors, including four in a two-run
Saddleback first-inning, helped the Roadrunners collect a 2-1 win in
the championship semifinals of the Costa Mesa Tournament at TeWinkle
Park.
Moore, who has two no-hitters this season, yielded just one hit,
striking out eight in a complete-game effort. Both Saddleback runs
were unearned. Moore also paced the Tars’ seven-hit attack, going 2
for 3, including a double.
Jenny Daniels also had a double for the Sailors, who fell to 4-2.
But the Sailors left six runners on and broke down defensively.
They will now settle for a third-place showdown with Costa Mesa,
tentatively scheduled for Monday at TeWinkle Park.
