The Center announces new Broadway series
The Orange County Performing Arts Center has announced its 2000-01
Broadway season, which includes seven musicals that range from early
favorites to the latest trends.
The season opens Sept. 12 with “Ragtime”--a portrait of three families
from very different backgrounds--which runs through Sept. 24.
Next is “Annie Get Your Gun,” running Nov. 21 through 26. The musical,
which won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, is the story of
Annie Oakley, one of the most famous sharpshooters of the Old West.
“Rent” returns to The Center for a one-week engagement Dec. 26 through
31. This modern rock opera is the tale of a community of young artists
struggling to live in New York city.
The new year kicks off with “The Scarlet Pimpernel”--a musical comedy
written in 1905 that revolves around the French Revolution--which runs
Jan. 2 through 7.
The critically acclaimed “Fosse” runs April 18 through 29. “Fosse”
chronicles the life of Bob Fosse and includes rarely seen numbers from
the choreographer’s earlier works.
The classic fairy tale “Cinderella” plays June 5 through 10; and
finishing up the season, is “Saturday Night Fever,” which runs June 26
through July 8.
Subscription tickets are available. Individual tickets go on sale four to
six weeks prior to each show’s opening night.
