The Golden West College International Symphonic Band will perform free
concerts this summer. Tom Hernandez will conduct the free pops concerts
at the Starshower Amphitheater from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2,
July 9 and July 18.
Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and watch the sunset
while enjoying familiar musical selections. Hernandez founded the band in
1966, and the group has been selected to play in Vatican City in 2001.
There is free parking at the Gothard Street entrance. The college is at

Musical on mating
game at Golden West
The Pacific Coast Civic Light Opera at Golden West College will open its
production of “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” on July 20 on the
college’s main stage. The play will run through July 30.
Directed by Roberta Kay, this celebration of the mating game takes on the
truths and myths behind contemporary relationships. The revue pays
tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on
their face at the portal of romance and to those who have dared to ask,
“Say, what are you doing Saturday night?”Show times are are 8 p.m. July
20 through July 22 and July 27 through July 29, and 3 p.m. July 23 and
July 30. $24.50 to $21.50. Parking is free.
The Mainstage Theatre is at 15744 Goldenwest St., at the Gothard Street
entrance.

Principals to shuffle
at Ocean View district
Ocean View School District has implemented the following new
administrative assignments for the 2000-2001 school year: Susan Kemp,
interim principal at Newport-Mesa, will be principal of College View
Elementary; Anna Dreifus, assistant principal at Harbour View Elementary,
has been promoted to principal at Village View Elementary; Kristi
Hickman, principal at Village View, will be principal at Star View
Elementary; and Allan Pogrund, principal of Star View, will be principal
at Sun View Elementary.
Principal retires
from Newland school
Newland Elementary School Principal Mary Lou Watkins has retired. She has
been principal at the school for four years, assistant principal at
Masuda Middle School for three years and a member of the staff in the
Fountain Valley School District for 30 years. She is a professor at Cal
State Long Beach.
