BRIEFLY IN EDUCATION

Newport-Mesa Unified School District is still waiting for the results of
the Stanford 9 test, although other districts in the county have already
received their scores.
The reason for the delay is that in other cities, such as Huntington
Beach and Anaheim, students took the test in mid-March while Newport-Mesa
did not administer the exam until April, said Peggy Anatol, the
district’s director of curriculum and assessment.
Because new accountability initiatives from Gov. Gray Davis demand that
underachieving schools improve their test scores, district officials are
anxious to see the results.
Scores will be posted on the state Department of Education Web site --
o7 https://www.cde.ca.govf7 -- on July 17.
However, district officials hope to receive the results by the end of
next week, Anatol said.
