Brewers tops in Majors

The Brewers clinched the Robinwood Little League Majors Division

championship for the 2000 season, beating the Braves, 18-3.

The pitching tandem of Scott Schauer and Casey Becker limited the Braves

to just three hits while striking out 12.

The Brewers jumped out in front early by scoring four runs in the first

inning. Becker and Daniel Jones paced the offense as each had a home run

and single. Schauer reached base all five times he went to the plate and

finished with three hits and a pair of walks.

Damon Bressler and Dalton Jones had two hits apiece for the Brewers.

Stephen Powers had two singles and scored twice, and Victor Ordonez

singled for the Braves.

Braves 14, Yankees 8

Todd Locken homered, doubled, singled, scored four runs, and picked up

his 10th pitching win of the season against two losses as the Braves

clinched the division’s No. 2 seed in the upcoming District 62 Tournament

of Champions.

Cory Kotler was perfect at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a double, and

Kevin Radle also contributed two hits for the Braves.

Gray Bailey homered and singled, and Ryan Gonzales had two hits for the

Yankees.

Brewers 7, Mets 4

Nolan Perine hit a two-run home run as the Mets scored four, first-inning

runs, but Casey Becker gave the Brewers the lead for good with a

three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Jaime Swain picked

up the pitching win for the Brewers, and Jason Gettler had two hits for

the Mets.

Mets 7, Dodgers 6

Brandon Gladu came up with a game-winning, two-RBI single, finished the

game 4 for 4, and also combined with fellow pitcher Jason Gettler to

strike out nine, to power the Mets.

James Spoolstra went 2 for 3, Bryce Overend went 2 for 4, and Gettler and

Eddie Ramirez each had key hits for the winners.

Chad Wojno went 3 for 3, and teamed with Jonathan Akstinas on the mound

to strike out nine for the Dodgers.
