Local swimmers sparkle

IRVINE - Newport Harbor High freshman Nicole Mackey highlighted a
group of local athletes representing the UCI-based AquaZot club program
who fared well at the Speedo Grand Challenge Swimming Invitational,
completed Sunday at Heritage Park.
Mackey, who helped the Newport Harbor girls team finish second in CIF
Southern Section Division I, finished eighth in the 400-meter individual
medley in 5:04.81. She was 11th in the 800 freestyle (9:16.55), 11th in
the 200 IM (2:26.07), 12th in the 400 free (4:33.14), 12th in the 200
free (2:11.43), 14th in the 100 butterfly (1:05.73) and 17th in the 100
free (59.53).
Newport Harbor junior Jennifer Arrow was 11th in the 200 breaststroke
(2:47.66), 23rd in the 100 breaststroke and 114th in the 200 IM.
Kim McKay was 45th in the 200 backstroke, 56th in the 100 backstroke,
79th in the 200 IM, 84th in the 100 free and 104th in the 100 butterfly.
