We asked students at Newport Harbor High School about prom night, which
was Saturday.
“Prom was excellent. My date was Amanda Collopy. We went with our parents
and took pictures with a group of about 50 people in Dover Shores. We ate
dinner at the Beach House Inn in Laguna Beach. Then we went to the dance.
We were there an appropriate amount of time. Then we went to an after
party in Tustin Ranch in a huge house and stayed until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
It was excellent. We went out with a bang.”
JUSTIN RUIZ, 18, senior
Newport Beach
“The dance and the after party were the best. I knew what I was getting
into. My date was fantastic. She was very pleasant.”
ANDY KALANZ, 19, senior
Newport Beach
“I liked it all. We went out on a yacht and went to the Balboa Bay Club.
Then we went to the dance, which was at the Fluor Daniel building in
Irvine. My date, Mitch Gray, was great. He’s very cute.”
KIM KETTLEY, 16, sophomore
Newport Beach
“It was a lot of fun. We basically danced the whole night. They played
the “Thong Song” by Sisqo. I didn’t have a date. I went with two other
girls from student government. I bought my dress in Santa Monica three
months ago not intending to wear it to prom.”
VALERIE DAY, 15, freshman
Newport Beach
“I thought the karaoke was the best. And looking at all of the beautiful
dresses. We went to EZ Takeout on 17th Street for dinner. I went with my
date and another couple. I was home by 2 a.m. I’m looking forward to next
year’s prom.”
