Tennis: Abrams, CdM duo win at Ojai

OJAI - Newport Harbor High product Geoff Abrams, a senior at
Stanford University, won the Pacific 10 Conference men’s singles title
Sunday to highlight the local contingent at the 100th Ojai Valley Tennis
Tournament.
Saturday, Peter Kulmaticki and Robert Kennedy, both juniors at Corona del
Mar High, won the boys 16s doubles title, while CdM senior Caylan Leslie
won the girls 18s doubles crown.
Abrams, the No. 2 seed, defeated Stanford teammate and No. 1 seed, Alex
Kim, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, in the title match.
Kulmaticki and Kennedy swept John Paul Beck and Ashwin Bhargava of Santa
Barbara, 7-5, 6-2.
Leslie and partner Ashley Backus of San Diego swept Peninsula’s Nicole
LaBrucherie and Jamie Pagliano, 6-2, 6-1.
Orange Coast College’s Lot Keijzer lost in the women’s community college
singles semifinals and Newport Beach’s Andrew Cheney lost in the
semifinals of the men’s open singles draw.
